About Move

Museums are repositories for national treasures and are responsible for the care of valuable collections. Key to this stewardship role is the management of indoor conditions to prevent deterioration of vulnerable objects. The provision of thermally comfortable indoor conditions, access to natural light, and good air quality are also critical for a great visitor experience. Climatically, conservation and comfort requirements do not always align often requiring a degree of compromise. AHRC funded Monitoring Object and Visitor Environments (MOVE) Project provides a digital live dashboard for environmental monitoring to facilitate the management of museum microclimates in diverse weather conditions. The Salford Museum and Art Gallery is a partner museum where this first version of the tool is being piloted.
